Beethoven in the Badlands is celebrating its fifth year in the valley.In these few short years it has become one of the premier cultural events in Alberta, and is truly an experience that cannot be compared.
Organizer for the event Jay Garbutt of the Rotary Club says this year’s event is shaping up to one of the most exciting ever, and music fans should plan to be on the site nice and early. They have booked the Polyjesters, a Calgary based quartet that has gained a reputation for their wit and entertainment value. The organizers are excited to have them perform two sets leading up to the main event.
Also on site will be representatives of some of the major attractions in Drumheller, including the Atlas Coal Mine, as well as artisans. The famous “Dan The One Man Band” will also be performing.
All of this is just a warm-up to the main show. The Calgary Philharmonic has chosen to close its season for the last five years in Drumheller. For those who have not been to the event, it promises live music that is unparalleled in quality and emotion. This year Pierre Simard will be conducting the show.
The event is a fundraiser for the Drumheller Rotary, and enjoys the support of many local dedicated sponsors, and its future depends on audience support. Organizers are hoping for a full house.
Beethoven in the Badlands is coming June 7 at 2 p.m. at the Passion Play site (see map pages 4 and 5). Patrons are encouraged to come at 11 a.m. to see and hear the day’s entire offering.
