Lacrosse action heats up over weekend

lacrosse.jpgThe Drumheller Lacrosse teams had another fast paced weekend after enjoying the long weekend break.
First the Midget Raptors took on Red Deer M2 in Drumheller on Thursday, May 21.  The boys ended up losing the game 8-2 but saw plenty of action on the floor.
Saturday afternoon saw the Bantam team enjoying a more even match-up with Lacoka B1, managing to keep the score tied up for most of the game.
With only eight runners, these boys ran out of steam and ended up losing 12-9 in the end.
The Pee-wee team also had a game against Lacoka and managed to edge by the Loco’s with a score of 5-3, putting on a gripping show for the hometown crowd.

U18 soccer takes another win at home, undefeated this season

soccer.jpgThe Drumheller Under 18 soccer team is now 3 and 0 this season, with another win over Bowden on Thursday, May 14.
Braving the cold winds to shutout Bowden 4-0, a first for the team’s goalie, the U18s are starting to take shape into a dominating soccer team with good chances to making finals.
The U18s beat Three Hills 6-1 on May 12.
“We have a skilled team this year,” said coach Martin McSween. “We are hoping to be in the finals again for the district this year but we will be taking each game as a new challenge one game at a time.”

U18’s take home first win, potential strong season ahead

soccer.jpgComing off a win in their first game of the year, the Drumheller U18 soccer team isn’t taking their first win as an indicator of an easy season. “We can’t take anything for granted,” said coach Martin McSween. “We have the potential and a really good squad, but they are new as a team and need to start gelling together.” The U18, who are the reigning district champions, took home a win against Carstairs on Thursday, April 30. They were scheduled to face Hanna at home last week, but the game was rained out. “The game against Carstairs was not an indicator to how well we’ll do this season, they weren’t very strong and I don’t know how the other teams are this year,” McSween said.
