The DVSS Dynos wrapped up their season after a strong showing at provincials, coming home in sixth place.

The young team, shattered expectations as they hustled their way into the final tournament of the season.
“The team surpassed any of my expectations for this year. As a team, your goal is always to try to win provincials, but I was looking for a team that showed constant improvement, and if we could finish in the top three at zones and a record over .500 I would have called it a successful season. We had a lot of new faces playing bigger roles then they did last year,” said coach Jeff Messom.
The team came out strong in their first game in Didsbury last weekend versus the Millwoods Christian Royals. Led by Jordan Britton’s 28 point effort, they buried the Royals 88-43, putting them up against La Crete.
“It was a tight game throughout with several lead changes but a bit of scoring drought allowed La Crete to capitalize in the end,” said Messom.
The Dynos lost 61-55 putting them against the number one team Immanuel Christian, which were down two starters who were injured in the previous game and therefore saw limited action.
The Dynos  took an early 10 point lead and held the lead until the fourth quarter. Immanuel fought back and took a three-point lead. The Dynos showed resolve and took a one-point lead. Immanuel Christian tied the game, and the Dynos had a chance for the win, however miscommunication led to a turnover. They did manage to get a defensive stop forcing overtime, where they went on to win 76-72.
In the consolation final they went up against the number two ranked team in the province, and the tournament hosts, Didsbury.
Didsbury jumped out to an early lead, but the Dynos settled down, and began to fight back. They were down 15 at the start of the third quarter and the team came out with determination, and with less than two minutes left in the game tied it up. The Dynos turned over the ball and were unable to capitalize as  Didsbury won 76-65. Kyle Smith had 26 points and Daulton Smith had 17.
The future bodes bright for the Dynos program with a  string core of players returning.
“The four Grade 12s will be missed as they provided leadership in many different ways, especially Daulton Smith, who has been a part of this team since Grade 9,” said Messom.
Fan Kellie Smith said the team represented themselves, the team and the community with  great sportsmanship throughout the tournament as well as providing exceptional basketball action.
