Junior boys Dynos to serve at zones

The junior boys volleyball team at DCHS are preparing for zones this coming weekend, after winning playoffs Tuesday last week.

Playing in Three Hills, the boys beat the hosting team, Carbon, Prairie Bible Academy, and then lost to Linden in the championship final.
“We did awesome,” said coach Audrey DeBona.
The Dynos came in second in the league, and now look to clean up at zone playoffs this weekend at Rundle College in Calgary.
“Our goal there is to make playoffs,” said DeBona, adding the team will be up against three private schools. “If they play there best, we’ll see where we end up.”
Compared to the beginning of the year, the junior boy Dynos have improved immensely, said DeBona. Only eight boys play on the team.
The team is a revival for junior high boys volleyball at DCHS, with it being nearly nonexistent for years. A senior high boys team doesn’t exist.
“It faded right out, we’re trying to bring it back.”
Coaching adjustments years ago saw the program fall apart, as no one but a few parents stepped up to coach boys volleyball at the school.
“Hopefully with them playing this year, it’ll generate interest so younger players play next year,” said DeBona.
“They’ve developed as a team, they don’t just have the skills but the knowledge of the game now.”
