STERENBERG, John

Mr. John Sterenberg passed away on October 7, 2011 in the Barrhead Continuing Care Centre at the age of 101 years and six months. He was born to Meerten and Zwantje Sterenberg in Baflo, Holland. He immigrated to Canada in 1929 and farmed for over 50 years in the Glenevis, AB area. John is survived by his loving family; his daughters Alice (Jack) Burlet, Mary (Bill) Myndiuk, Velma Sterenberg and Dani (Tom) Dooley; 6 grandchildren, Luke, Jake, Matt, Teresa, Michael and John; 6 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Julianne, Jacob, Hannah, Zack, Jared and sister-in-law Pie, as well as other extended family in Canada, Holland and Slovakia. John was predeceased by his parents; son, Martin; his wife of 62 years, Mary; daughter, Hilda; brothers, Died and Geert; brother-in-law, Henk Lesterhuis; nephew, Hans Lesterhuis; and sister, Hilje (Lesterhuis) on October 9, 2011. A memorial service was held Friday, October 21, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the John and Mary Sterenberg Established Fund, University of Alberta Hospital Foundation, 8440 112 Street, Edmonton, AB T6G 2B7, or charity of one’s choice.
