As construction on the Badlands Community Facility plugs along, so is the fundraising as Hi-Way 9 Express added $125,000 to the sports complex’s coffers on Tuesday morning.

“We absolutely knew Hi-Way 9 would come to the table and it’s great to see them step up now. Hopefully their donation will lead to other significant donations in the not-so-distant future,” said Jeff Hall, chair of the facility’s fundraising cabinet.
Hall told The Mail the cabinet has well over $1,000,000 in cash donations now, making headway on securing funds for the $6,000,000, five year loan.
“We’re all born and raised here and felt it was a required need for this community,” said  Hi-Way 9 office manager Heather Colberg, adding most of her family has been heavily involved with sporting in Drumheller.
“My bottom-line is the fact that we are now equivalent to other communities which have a facility like this so there is a purpose for people to live here, work here, play here. It has everything,” said Colberg. “I think it’s going to be nothing but a huge advantage for everyone.”
Hi-Way 9 has supported the idea of building the Badlands Community Facility from the start.
Colberg said she respects the volunteers putting in countless hours which have brought it to town.
“That’s a huge undertaking and I have nothing but the highest thank you’s to the committee who made this possible.”
Hall said the larger donations of more than $100,000 are where the committee is focusing their time.
“We’re really focusing trying to get those donations in place. Obviously every little bit helps, but that’s where we’re putting our time,” said Hall.
The fundraising cabinet are not in a place to reveal exactly how much money has been raised thus far, “but have irons in the fire,” Hall said.
Hall said, “We’re plugging along and I think we’re on track for the most part. Like construction, we may be a couple weeks behind, but from an overall standpoint we’re where we want to be.”
Hall said the town has not yet had to draw on the loan for construction.
