Inmate adds year to sentence

A serving inmate at the Drumheller Institution had another year tacked on to his sentence after pleading guilty to possession of drugs.     Richard Bonin appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Wednesday, March 2. He faced three charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking. He pleaded guilty to three counts of simple possession.
The court heard that on August 25 of last year a canine unit alerted corrections staff to Bonin.  He was strip-searched and authorities discovered cannabis resin and 11 ecstasy pills in his underwear. The total institutional value of the drugs is approximately $2,710.
Judge Grieve sentenced Bonin to one year in custody, consecutive to any sentence he is currently serving.
