Youth sentenced for driving over limit

A Drumheller youth who had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood pleaded guilty in provincial court in Drumheller.     The 17 year old youth, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, January 14. He pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal limit.
The court heard how on November 12 of last year RCMP observed the vehicle engaged in stunting–like driving. When the vehicle was stopped by police, the driver exhibited signs of impairment.  Breath samples analyzed showed 230 milligrams of alcohol, per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.
This was the youth's first conviction on any matter. He was fined $500 and his licence was suspended.
