Delia woman charged following highway fatality

    A Delia woman has been charged in relation to a traffic fatality which took the life of her common law husband.


    On December 22, the Trochu Fire Department and Kneehill EMS were dispatched to the scene of a single motor vehicle collision about one kilometre south of Trochu. Three Hills RCMP came upon the scene at about 10:30 p.m.
    It is believed a white Dodge pick-up truck was heading north on Highway 21, when a male passenger, that was in the rear bed of the truck, had fell from the truck bed and had struck his head on the pavement. The male was deceased on arrival.
    Highway 21 was closed off for approximately six hours while RCMP conducted their investigation, between Highway 27 and Highway 585.
    It was announced on December 24 that Deanna Amthor, 44, of Delia has been charged with refusal to provide a breath sample, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death, and dangerous driving causing death.
    The deceased has been identified as Edward Steven Jaworenko, 44, of Delia. According to a police release, he and the accused were common law partners.
    Amthor is to appear in provincial court in Drumheller on January 5, 2010.
