Local man passes away following cycling collision

submitted

A local man who was involved in a collision between a bicycle and travel trailer on Friday, July 19, passed away on Thursday evening.

Drumheller RCMP provided an update to last week’s collision.  RCMP, the Drumheller Fire Department, and EMS responded to a collision at the intersection of 3rd Avenue West and 2nd Street West.  A westbound bicyclist had rode into the side of a travel trailer negotiating a turn.  Police investigation revealed the driver of the truck and trailer was not at fault and committed no offences.

The bicyclist, 51-year-old Daryl Lee Metzger of Drumheller, was taken by ambulance to the Drumheller Health Centre.

Mr Metzger spent several days there and developed complications due to some serious pre-existing health issues.  He was then transferred to Red Deer Regional Hospital where he died in the late evening of July 25th, surrounded by his family.

The Metzger family wishes to thank everyone for the support they have received, and wish to extend their personal support to the driver involved in the collision.
