One dead at Highways 9 and 21 collision

On Monday, July 15, 2013, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Beiseker RCMP and Airdrie Rural RCMP assisted by Alberta Health Services and the Acme, Rosebud, Carbon, Linden and Rockyford Fire Departments all responded to a three vehicle collision at Highway 21 and Highway 9 in Beiseker, Alberta. A transport truck believed to be travelling north bound on Highway 21 collided with a Honda Civic travelling east bound on Highway 9. The two said vehicles then collided into a parked pickup truck. Two workers doing highway maintenance were subsequently hit by the vehicles.

One adult male has been confirmed deceased on scene and an adult female has been air lifted by STARS air ambulance in critical condition. The occupant of the Honda Civic was transported by ground ambulance for his injuries, and the driver of the transport truck suffered minor injuries and was not transported.

The RCMP Calgary Collision Re-Constructionist is on scene and is continuing to investigate. No charges have been laid at this time, alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Delays are expected in the area of Highway 21 and Highway 9 while officers conduct the investigation.

The identity of the deceased male will not be released until notifications have been completed. Police are asking for assistance from possible witnesses. If you have any information on this incident please contact the Airdrie RCMP at (403) 945-7200 or the Beiseker RCMP at 403-947-3240.
