Charges pending following fatal collision

Charges are pending for the 35-year-old driver of a truck involved in a fatal accident at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 21 on, July 15.

Shortly after noon last Monday, an 18-year-old Three Hills man was killed and a 19-year-old female from Three Hills was airlifted from the scene of the collision.

According to investigators, it appears a transport truck northbound on Highway 21 failed to stop at the intersection. The truck collided with a Honda Civic, eastbound on Highway 9. The two vehicles collided with a parked Carillion pick-up truck north of the intersection. Two workers who were doing highway maintenance were struck by the out-of-control vehicles. The transport truck finally came to rest over 80 metres away in a farmer’s field.

The 18-year-old male from Three Hills was confirmed deceased at the scene, while the female remains in critical condition. The occupant of the Honda Civic was transported by ground ambulance and has since been released from hospital.

Police are considering charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

Police are still seeking assistance from possible witnesses. If you have any information on this incident please contact the Airdrie RCMP at (403) 945-7200 or the Beiseker RCMP at 403-947-3240.
