Community Facility moving along

Drumheller’s new community facility is moving along, still aiming for a November 15 opening.

The multi-use complex is almost totally closed in, and the glass has been installed.
Inside, the welding on the running track continues, as well as hvac ductwork, and spray on insulation work.
Brickwork and installation of washrooms and showers in the change rooms for the fieldhouse is also underway.
As well, the public can now have a look at what the exterior covering of the building will look like as workers are installing the exterior covering.
The cladding is a fire resistant material and can be seen in various shades of gray from the eastern side of the building where workers have begun the work.
The color selection was chosen over a tan color in a vote held by facility committees, as well as a website survey held earlier this year.
Lorne Peters, site superintendent for general contractor Dawson Wallace Construction of Calgary, told The Mail that over 80 sub-trades, both large and small, are involved in the project.
“We (Dawson Wallace) have had excellent co-operation from local suppliers who are working with us as a team”, Mr. Peters said.
This was borne out by Rod Knelsen from LPR Concrete of Drumheller. Mr. Knelsen told The Mail earlier that working with Dawson Wallace was a good experience and Dawson Wallace was good to work with on the project.
Occupancy by mid-November is still the target, but not all areas of the complex will be fully functional at that time.
Two key staff members involved in the operation of the complex are both working to ensure programs and functions are in place by opening. Guy Latour is the business manager, and Heather Little is the marketing and events officer for the facility.
