Affordable housing complex opens in Drumheller

A vision for safe, appropriate, affordable housing in Drumheller finally came to fruition Friday, as town councillors cut the ribbon on the new Sandstone Manors.

The 20 suite building had its first resident move in on Monday, June 22, marking the culmination of a vision that started in the late 1990’s.
“This is something we can all be proud of,” said councillor Karen Bertamini, who has worked to make the affordable housing project a reality since its first days.
Costing around $12 million, it is Drumheller’s newest apartment building since the 1980’s.
Each unit measures approximately 900 square feet, and comes in one or two bedroom apartments, which will be filled to full occupancy by August.
“Certainly there were a lot of hurdles that we ran into to overcome,” said Bertamini. “It’s a great day for me, and a banner day for Drumheller. Without the support of administration, staff, the partnerships and councils, we wouldn’t be here today.”
The apartments are complete, with the parking lot currently unfinished, but Bertamini said it will be finished by July.
The apartment complex is located at 215 10 Avenue S.E.
