N.P.P. racing gets the brakes over weekend

stock-cars.jpgAt the first race at Dinosaur Downs this Sunday, N.P.P. Late Model Series racing brought to Drumheller for the first time races at the new 3/8 mile oval.
But the event was flawed, as the race was stopped before the N.P.P. qualifying heat could get underway, due to the rapid drying nature on the second turn of the track put an end to the competitive racing.
Starting at 3 p.m., the event ended around 5 after the hobby stock car feature event, which was won by Danielle Clark.

U18s eye provincial gold

soccer.jpgWith another district title under there belt, for the second year in a row, the Drumheller U18’s now have their eyes set on the provincial title, in what might be a first time gold for the team.
Having a buy-in to the final round of playoffs on June 20 in Acme, the team ended up playing, and beating, Bowden in the final round Saturday afternoon.
The Drumheller co-ed U18s took the Big Country district championship with a 3-0 win over the team.
Now the team is set to play Saturday, July 4 in Stettler, scheduled to play two games on Saturday, and depending on the results, will be playing a game or more on Sunday, July 5.

Lacrosse winds up season with fond memories and shorter hair

Never take a bet over a sports game, especially if it involves a dozen boys and your hair!
The Drumheller Bantam Lacrosse team got the opportunity to have a hand in shaving the heads of their three coaches after winning a 9-8 overtime game to start off the Central Alberta Lacrosse League Playoffs this past week in Red Deer.  This rough and tumble team had gone all season without a win or tie but managed to claw their way to a victory over Lacoka 2 on Wednesday, June 17.
The boys were very excited about the win and ecstatic about the hair cuts, And their coaches Tim Gendron, Shaun Fournier and Larry Wilton all demonstrated their true sportsmanship when on Thursday night each team member got a chance to take a little off the top!
