Rage earn fourth spot at provincials

soccer.jpgThe U16 Rage girls soccer team finished second in their pool, just behind the eventual champions at their first ever appearance at the provincial tournament.
The U16s have had a stellar season and won the zone championship. This qualified them for the provincial tournament in Beaumont over last weekend.
The team had a stellar performance and finished in fourth place in the province.
“I was very happy with their play,” says coach Dave Rogers.
The Rage started the tournament against a team from Lakeland. Maddie Davies found the net as the Rage went on to a 1-nil win.
This put them up against the Rocky Knights. The two teams played to a draw.
The Rage’s final game in the round robin was against Thorsby, where they tied 2-2. Megan Duncalf scored both Drumheller goals.
This result left them tied for first place in their pool, although Rocky still had one game to play. Rocky was victorious knocking the Rage into the bronze medal match.
The team played Jasper to determine third and fourth spot. They lost 4-2 with goals coming from Janelle Simoneau and Maddie Davies.
Coach Rogers says it was an exciting weekend of soccer, but by the end the team ran out of gas.
He gives particular credit to the defense and goalie Kelsey Christal. The Rage only allowed six goals for the tournament. The lack of subs caught up to them towards the end.
