Drumheller elementary school aged children will now have the chance to learn the basics of golf, thanks to the National Golf in Schools program.

Educational sets of golf equipment, aimed at Grades 2-5 students were distributed to Greentree School and St. Anthony’s School Thursday morning. The kits include all kinds of golf supplies, from clubs to balls and targets, as well as teacher resources, designed with learning in mind.
“This is part of our mandate to bring golf to the community,” said Tom Zariski, director for the Alberta Golf Association and president of the Drumheller Community Golf Association. “Virtually every elementary student in Drumheller will have an introduction to golf.”
The kits are provided by the Royal Canadian Golf Association, and distributed through the provincial associations.
Zariski said the Drumheller Community Golf Association applied to the Drumheller Family Fund, administered by the Royal Tyrrell Museum Cooperating Society for the kits, and the society came through with the funding. Each kit is worth about $500.
