Dinosaur Half Marathon registration picking up speed

Registration numbers continue to climb for the Dinosaur Half Marathon and have now reached 45 for a potential 850 spots for three different events scheduled on September 11.

This year’s event features a newly added 10 kilometre run to compliment the existing family/walking 5 kilometre run  and the 21 kilometre half run. There are 250 spots for the 5 k and 10 k runs, and 350 for the half marathon.
Last year’s event saw 436 registrations, without having the 10 k run.
Last year’s event and currently this year’s registration are seeing a strong number of runners from Calgary and Edmonton, and more of them are expected, says organizer Colin Kloot.
They’ll be advertising at Police Half Marathon in Calgary this weekend, and also in May at the Calgary Marathon Expo.
“Last year, we had more than two-thirds of runners coming from outside,” said Kloot. “People travel to do these things – you’ll have people from all over doing what is termed ‘exotic runs’.”
“This one has a real boost because of the attraction of the valley.”
This year, the Dinosaur Half Marathon has been receiving support from valley accommodations, with preferred rates at hotels being passed out to runners from outside the valley. Kloot says all these outside participants could be a potential boost to tourism in Drumheller.
