Sabres to host soccer zones this weekend

The St. Anthony’s Sabres girls soccer team have proved all season they are ready to compete, and this weekend they are primed for a strong showing at zones.

The Sabres are hosting this year’s tournament, with the top schools in the South Central Zone. This Friday and Saturday they will be on the field to compete for the prize.
Teams coming to the tournament include Foothills Composite High School from Okotoks, Bert Church from Airdrie, Cochrane High School and Holy Trinity Academy from Okotoks. The final spot will be the winner of Highwood High School of High River and Strathmore School.
The teams are divided into two pools and will be playing in a round robin format on Friday. On Saturday, October 16, the semifinals and finals will be played out.
The Sabres will be on the field on Friday at 9 a.m. to play Bert Church and then at 3 p.m. to play Foothills Composite.
Semifinal action on Saturday starts at 8:30 a.m., with the championship game at 3:30 p.m.
The Sabres had a slow start to the season. Although they fought a goal drought early on, they often were aggressors on the field. They snapped their goalless streak with a convincing 4-2 win over Strathmore to complete league play.
