There are still spots available for young Drumheller hoopsters to get on some off-season action.
The next season of Badlands Basketball Spring League begins April 29. The annual league now incorporates boys and girls from Grades 6 to 11.
Badlands Basketball has grown in its short history. In its first season, they had 30 players signed up. Last season there were 100 players out to gain experience in the off-season. This has helped the players and the school programs excel. Last year the DCHS Senior boys won silver at provincials and this year had another strong team. So far, registration is strong.
“We have about 90 kids,” said Chad Pidhaichuk who is organizing the league, adding there are still a number of spots available to play.
There is a co-ed junior division for Grades 5 and 6 as well as senior divisions for boys and girls in Grades 7-11.
This it the first year that the boys division hasn’t filled up, I still have about 15 spots open,” said Pidhaichuk.
He says there are still a few spots in the senior girls division
The teams play on Tuesday and Thursday nights through to June 7 when there will be playoffs.
There is also a boys travel U17 team and there are three more spots available. The team will play in a couple tournaments.
