One of kind weekend for Yavis Atom Raptors

The Raptors were booked in for a three game weekend coming away with one win, one loss and one tie.
The Raptors were forced to take their home show on the road Friday as they hosted Nanton in Hussar. It was the rematch from last weekend when the Raptors lost with 24 seconds to go. The coaching staff did an excellent job motivating the young team as the Raptors outplayed the Broncos in the first period outshooting them 11-2 at one point.
Nanton stepped up their game in the 2nd outshooting us 19-15. They took a slight edge as it was 2-1 after two periods. A chance to take  a quick break and restore their energy while they cleaned the ice between the periods.
It wasn’t meant to be, as the Nanton Broncos wanted it more. They fired three unanswered goals and the Raptors couldn’t find the twine at the other end, outshooting the Broncos 38-32.
The Vulcan Hawks were in to visit the Raptors in the Dragons Den on Saturday. The Twin Towers were reunited as Kevin ‘Knuckles’ Schrock and ‘Jumpin’ Jake Petrie were in on the scoring early as we took a 3-0 lead.
Tyler ‘Top Shelf’ Cardamone was up to his tricks as he found open ice and netted 5 goals. Haylea ‘Heartbreaker’ Crone added offensive support with three assists. There was a lot of play between the blue lines and a few trips to the sin bin.
The Raptors prevailed and were back on the win side 8-4.
On the road for 8:00 am sharp start in Strathmore was Sunday’s game. The Olympic sized rink was wider than the Drumheller team usually plays, so the kids had to put some pepper on their passes. Pepper we had as Tanner “The Tank” Boutin fired shots from the point with cannon like speed. Tyler ‘Hard Knox’ Hummel and Wild Bill McDougald also were able to send hard and high shots towards the net.
At the other end, the Big E kept his stick active and was able to poke check the puck from a few offenders. The game was close and rough but the Raptors hung on for a valuable one point tie.
    Scoring this weekend: Top Shelf 6G 3A; Heartbreaker 4A; Knuckles 2G 1A; Jumpin Jake 2G; The Tank 1G 1A; Snowman 1G 1A; Sniper 2A; Cruncher 1A; Zack Attack 1A; Nathanator 1A.
