Fast action at 4 on 4 tourney

4-x-4-team-pic.jpg    Playing 4 on 4 hockey at the Hockey Alberta tournament this past weekend is great fun for kids, and your hockey skills better be top notch as well.
Co-sponsored by the Sports Room Source for Sports, nine player teams consist of a goalie and two- four player lines. Play is non-stop and the buzzer sounds after two minutes, signalling a line change. The shinny-style game is played on half the ice surface, and there are no penalties or whistles, and play doesn’t stop after a goal is scored.
“Pretty much just go and play hockey,” according to hockey dad Pete Cardamone.
Teams are picked from all players who showed up, so it is a good fair atmosphere for players. The games are two-25 minute periods.
The action went from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with 81 players in attendance from as far away as Banff and Rocky Mountain House. The Drumheller Dragons  were a great support getting the even started. Freson IGA was generous in donating lunch for all the skates as well as coaches and referees.
