AB Golf Legacy Fund could support young Drumheller golfers

Alberta Golf is celebrating its centennial this year, and part of the celebration may benefit young golfers in Drumheller.

Tom Zariski is a director with Alberta Golf, and locally he is also a strong advocate for youth getting involved in golfing.  A year ago he was able to have Alberta Golf help outfit Greentree School and St. Anthony’s with Golf In School Kits for elementary school aged children. This year he also led the Clubs for Kids program and delivered more than 200 golf clubs to Drumheller schools.

Alberta Golf is holding its Centennial Gala on August 19 at the Calgary Golf and Country Club. Zariski said the funds raised for Alberta Golf’s Legacy Fund at this event could find its way into programs at Drumheller schools.

“The Legacy Fund is going to be used for junior golf. The spin off for Drumheller kids is that Alberta Golf will have more programs, and more resources we’ll be able to access for our younger golfers in our community,” said Zariski.

He said similar to the Golf In School Kits he distributed last year, Golf Canada is developing a senior high version of the program.

“What is going to happen next year or even as soon as fall, the Drumheller Community Golf Association will be doing some fundraising and looking at some grants, and the Alberta Golf Legacy Fund will help us purchase a couple of these kits, one for DVSS and one for St. Anthony’s,” said Zariski.

“I am very sure we’ll be able to access some of this funding,” said Zariski
