Dynos win home tourney

The DVSS Dynos senior boys basketball team sent a strong message heading into the post season by winning their home tournament, and defeating two ranked teams
The Dynos ended their regular season of play by winning the DVSS Dynos Invitational Tournament over the weekend.


    On Friday afternoon the Dynos faced the Acme Redmen JV team, defeating them 100 to 30.
In the second round the Dynos played the number 10 ranked team in 2A basketball, the La Crete Lancers. The Dynos started off strong by holding The Lancers to 5 points in the first quarter, and heading into half the Dynos had taken a 37 to 16 lead. In the third quarter the Dynos struggled offensively, as five players had found themselves in foul trouble. In fourth quarter the Dynos responded by holding the Lancers to only 10 points, taking a 68 to 41 victory.
    Kyle Smith lit it up for 31 points, Cody Gouin had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 
    This victory would put the Dynos in the tournament final against the number four ranked PCA Sabres from Three Hills, who had beat the Dynos two weeks earlier in league play.
    The first quarter started off with both teams exchanging baskets however midway through the quarter the Dynos managed to pull away taking a 26 to 18 point lead. PCA responded in the second quarter by chipping away at the Dynos lead to get within four points. In the third quarter, the Dynos clamped down defensively under the strong play of Alex Cliche, and Jordan Britton who, kept the Sabres to one shot and holding the Sabres to 7 points. The strong defensive play of the team continued as again the Dynos controlled the defensive boards, and Smith put pressure on their guards causing numerous turnovers resulting in an 86 to 55 victory.
    Smith had 19 points, Gouin had 17 and nine boards, Briton14 points and 13 rebounds.
    Smith was named tournament MVP, while Britton was named a tournament All-Star.
    This weekend the Dynos are hosting zones. In the season’s final ranking the Dynos are in second place in the province. PCA is holding to a fifth place ranking.
