Ringers qualify for Alberta Games

The Rockyford Ringers will be on their way to the Alberta Games this season and are hoping for a good showing.
The U16 ringette team qualified represent Zone 2 at the games from February 9-12.
The team beat out Strathmore for the chance at the games.
Coach Warren Kalbhen says the team has been playing well this season and over the weekend were in Medicine Hat to play in a tournament.
“Every game was a one-goal game, one way or another, so we are pretty competitive with Edmonton and Medicine Hat,” said Kalbhen, who has two daughters playing on the squad. “They are the two top teams.”
This is not the first time the Ringers have gone to the Alberta Games. One of Kalbhen’s daughters played on the squad at the last games.
The Alberta Winter Games have been running since 1974 and are held every two years. Organizers are expecting more than 2,800 athletes, coaches and officials at this year’s games, representing eight zones of the province.
This year there are 23 participating sports at the games co-hosted by Spruce Grove, Parkland County and Stony Plain.  Ringette will be played at the TransAlta TriLeisure Centre in Spruce Grove.
