Drumheller resident and hockey patriarch George Kallay has been honoured once again by Hockey Alberta, this time for his contribution to the Alberta Cup Program.

Kallay has served Hockey Alberta for years. He was awarded at a luncheon on Saturday, June 11 at the Hockey Alberta AGM. In the 25th anniversary of the Alberta Cup Program, Hockey Alberta recognized 25 builders of the program.
“It was a surprise, I couldn’t have done it without the help of others,” said Kallay. “They are great people to work with.”
Kallay began his involvement with Hockey Alberta in 1993, and immediately became involved in a number of programs. He was heavily involved in the development of the U16 and U17 programs where he served for a number of years as the manager of operations for the U16 team and the director of operations for the U17 team from 1997-2003. He also served as the Development Committee Chairman.
In these capacities he was a leader in the development of the fully integrated Alberta Cup Programs, and focused on the development of administrators, coaches, trainers and players. He worked closely with all these stakeholders as well as players and parents. These include future professionals including Jay Bouwmeester, Scott Hartnell and Scotty Upshall.
He has remained active and served as the chairperson for the Hockey Alberta Foundation Board and was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2008.
Currently he is still a serving Member of the Hockey Alberta Board, representing Zone 6.
“It is great to work with all these athletes, coaches and parents, and give back to the game, this is something I cherish,” he said.
