ROUGHLEY, Thomas William

ROUGHLEY, Thomas William (Tommy)
May 15, 1929 - October 17, 2011

“Tommy” Roughley, born Thomas William in Liverpool, England on May 15, 1929, passed away peacefully in the Hanna Hospital on Oct. 17, 2011 at the age of 82 years. Tom was a man of many talents and interests. He was a gifted musician; could play any instrument he laid his hand to. He also became an accomplished ballroom dancer at a young age and danced throughout his life. He loved to tell about his army days, when teaching the officers to dance often got him out of lots of trouble. Tom loved his garden, particularly his dahlias and loved animals, especially the horses he had over the years and all the little fox terriers that shared his home and his heart. Tom served a mission to India in the early ‘80s, and it had a huge impact on his life. He worked with the poor of the earth and came home with an enormous sense of gratitude for our blessings on this continent. He also was an avid genealogist and spent several years learning and teaching Spanish. He had the ability to lift and cheer. Wherever he went, someone would be smiling when he left. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Marcia; 4 children, Alan (Nuria); Sue; Ian (Debbie); and Jacque (Brad) Ames; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; his brother, Ken, in England and numerous cousins in England and 1 family of cousins in Michigan, who he felt particularly close to. Interment will take place at the Hanna Cemetery and the funeral service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Drumheller on Oct. 21st. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hanna Hospital Auxilliary where we request that it be directed to the palliative care unit.  Condolences may be offered at www.hannafuneralchapel.com
