JOHNSON, Joyce
March 21, 1943 - October 21, 2011

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and sister Joyce Johnson on October 21, 2011.Born March 21, 1943, in Drumheller, the eldest daughter of Joe and Iva Devaleriola growing up on the farm near Morrin. After leaving the farm to attend the University of Calgary to obtain her teaching degree, she then went on to teach for 34 years (Sundre, Morrin, Chestermere and Fort McMurray), and became very dedicated to her students. Mom never doubted her students’ abilities and this commitment was evident when she won the Excellence in Teaching award in 1989. Upon retiring in 1998, she moved to Okotoks and began to tutor and substitute teach. A lifelong learner, she took both guitar and horse riding lessons. Mom was very passionate in her love of horses as they always brought joy to her life. She is survived by her two daughters JoAnn (Lawson) White and Brenda Johnson; two very special grandchildren, Curtis White and Jillian White; sisters, Joan Devaleriola and Diane Hale; brothers, Ken Devaleriola and Stan Devaleriola; numerous nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her Father, Joe Devaleriola; Mother, Iva Devaleriola; companion Rowland Woosley. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, October 29, 2011 at the Morrin United Church, with Jerry Beskowine officiating. Interment will follow at Morrin Cemetery.
