Leonard John Steen of Rumsey, Alberta passed away peacefully, Monday, March 8th, 2010 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Born in Drumheller, on September 15, 1927 to John and Tillie Steen, Leonard was the third of five children. While attending Rumsey School, Leonard worked with his family on their farm. On October 8th, 1950, Leonard married the love of his life, Helen Freda Storch. They settled on a farm near Rumsey to start their family. Along with farming, Leonard worked as a mechanic, a butcher and a caterer. Leonard was an avid gardener, baker and handyman who loved his family dearly. His creative side was showcased by his prize winning entries in the Red Deer River Garden Show each year. He loved working in his gardens with Helen or playing cards with Rosie sitting on his shoulder. Leonard is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Helen; his children: Susan (Bob) Turkington of Red Deer,AB, Randy (Vi) Steen of Sparwood,BC, Tony (Beryl) Steen of Three Hills, AB, Ernie (Laurie) Steen of Innisfail, AB, Mike (Patty) Steen of Rumsey, AB, Carolin (John) Schofer of Byemoor, AB, Bonny (Andy) Nelson of Trochu, AB, Kelly (Marci) Steen of Carbon, AB, and Vincent (Natasha) Steen  of Brooks, AB; 36 Grandchildren and 16 Great- grandchildren. Funeral Service was held at the Rumsey Hall, Rumsey, Alberta on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 10:00 A.M.  Memorial Donations may be made to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation, 351 9th Street, NW, Drumheller, Alberta T0J 0Y1 for the purchase of a MRI machine or to The Alberta Horticulture Association, c/o Mary Lawrence, 4410-50 A Street, Red Deer, AB T4N 1Z2 Courtney- Winters Funeral Chapel of Drumheller, AB entrusted with arrangements. 403 823 2666.
