Gordon

November 5, 2021

Gordon Ector, adored brother, uncle, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully November 5, 2021, at the age of 80, following a courageous battle with cancer. He will be dearly missed by sons Brian (Karla), Glenn (Karen) and Kevin (Dina) and grandchildren Cole, Kate, Elena, Bryce, Olivia and Veronica. Gordon was predeceased by Lucille, his loving wife of 48 years, parents Archie and Viola Ector, sister Dorothy, brother William, brother-in-law Harry, and sister-in-law JoDee.
Gordon was born and raised in Elbow, Saskatchewan. Following graduation in 1966 from the U of S he accepted a position at the high school in Drumheller as a phys-ed teacher. While there, he began the volleyball program and coached many different teams. In 1975 Gordon became a phys-ed teacher at Central Elementary, so he could spend more time with Lucille and their 3 young sons. Gordon remained at Central until his retirement in 1996.
Some of Gordon’s favourite activities included curling, golfing, playing pickleball and cards, gardening, travelling, and spending summers at Brightsand Lake. Gordon was proud of his two holes in one, and he was an accomplished curler which included winning the 2007 Elks Masters National Championship.
As the middle child in a family of 7, Gordon mastered the art of going with the flow. He was an easy person to like/love, and one of his many gifts was his ability to add a good dose of fun to any activity or occasion. Gordon was very content with his life in Drumheller. His happiest moments were sharing a good laugh with friends or family, and his gentle and playful nature made him popular with children and animals alike.
The family would like to acknowledge the unwavering support Gordon received during the past several months from his friends, neighbours and extended family members. Each of you contributed to fulfilling Gordon’s last wish, which was to remain in the community that he loved so dearly, for as long as possible. Thank you also to the staff at Agape Hospice for the compassionate care Gordon received during his final days.
On November 12, 2021, we will honour Gordon with a Memorial Service, at 2:00 pm at the Badlands Community Facility upstairs (80 Veterans Way, Drumheller, Alberta). A reception will follow at the Badlands Community Facility. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation (Cancer Clinic), 351 - 9 Street N.W., Drumheller, AB, T0J 0Y1 or the Agape Hospice, 1302 8th Ave. N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1B8, http://agapehospice.ca/ Courtney-Winters Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
