Peter
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Abramenko of Rumsey, Alberta on May 6, 2019 at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 85 years. Peter was the 4th child of Flora and Peter Abramenko. Peter was involved in farming at a young age and worked for local farmers in the area for additional sources of income. He
also experienced working in a sawmill, a grain elevator construction worker, an oil rig hand and a bartender in
various hotels in the area. The sudden loss of his father in 1954 devastated the family. With few resources and fewer options, he, his mother and younger brother faced the challenges presented to them and continued to farm
uncertain of the future. In 1962 Peter married the love of his life Darlene Riggs. Sons Mark and Shawn were born in 1964 and 1967 respectively. Peter was happiest on the farm and the joy of spring calves and all the things spring brings. As spring moved into summer it also brought the Rumsey Parade, something that was a highlight to him and his family since they usually were participants. He enjoyed life and was fondly referred to by his sister Mary as Peter Rabbit and lovingly remembered by the rest of Mary’s family as Rabbit. He was the social butterfly of the family and loved to visit and reminisce of times past. Travelling was one of Peter’s passions. He loved the N.W.T. and Alaska, travelling there three times as well as Australia twice with his son Shawn via a motorcycle. He was amazed at what he saw on his trip to Churchill and all of its wonders. He was a deeply caring and giving person. He will be missed beyond measure. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his sons Mark and Shawn (Theresa); grandchildren Crystal, Leteisha, Kayden and Danica and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his wife Darlene, brothers Nick & Bill, sister Mary and his parents Flora and Peter.
