Council Notes
Drumheller Town Council
Committee of the Whole Meeting
Monday, January 15, 2018

•••
Deputy Mayor Tom Zariski called the meeting to order at 4:31 p.m.
•••
CAO Darryl Drohomerski introduced Armia Mikhaiel as the new Director of Infrastructure for the town.
•••
A new idea was proposed to council focusing on the usage of the Badlands Community Facility and Aquaplex by youth.
This program will work with schools and families in the area by allowing teachers to have more options when rewarding students for good work.
The multi-facility passes would act as an incentive for students to get active and volunteer in the community rather than fall on reckless behaviour.
Further discussions will occur in the next few weeks before any final decisions.

•••
CAO Drohomerski gave an idea of what the town’s Public Participation Overview policy should look like. The government has mandated this policy be put in place by June.
The Town currently has some ‘loose’ public participation policies like surveys, advertisements, meetings, and social media.
He explained that this policy would require more media attention like open houses for events or important changes within the community, ultimately increasing the lines of communication between the town and its residents. No decisions were made at this time.

•••
A discussion about a draft Community Assistance Policy commenced. In 2017, Council requested to review the approach to Community Assistance summarized as a review and the development of a policy for the way that the town supports the efforts of community organizations in Drumheller.
Director of Community Services Paul Salvatore recommended that council provide final feedback for the draft policy so that the policy can be adopted at the next available council meeting by a motion of council.
He also recommends that council provide clear indication of the total value of grants to be awarded, both in kind contributions and by the way of cash contributions in 2018 prior to the September 2018 application deadline.

•••
Meeting adjourned at 5:59 p.m.
