Healthy Lifestyle Fair returns

The second event of the semi-annual Healthy Lifestyle Fair is coming up on March 30.
The Big Country Primary Care Network held its first fair in October of last year. Their second event, coming up at the end of the month, will focus on physical activity, goal setting and self-management. Erica Laycock, wellness coordinator, said the registration is beginning to fill up. She says it is aimed at anyone interested in making a healthy change to their lifestyle.
“Any who are interested can come. It is for all ages and fitness levels. You can come all day, or just for sessions that are of interest to you,” said Laycock.
She adds that not living a healthy lifestyle not only affects an individual personally, but also professionally. Many health conditions that are preventable can cost productivity at work, and often lead to missing work.
With that in mind, she would like to see local businesses have a look to see what is offered at the Healthy Lifestyle Fair.
“We know when people are active and eat better, there are reduced costs in sick leave and  everything else,” said Laycock.
The day includes lectures as well as break out sessions.
“The focus is physical activity and we’ll be having break out session around that, just to give people an opportunity to try a few different things they may have not tried or not know where to go to try them,” said Laycock.
Some of these sessions include modified yoga, Pilates, urban poling and proper use of fitness equipment.
At lunch time there will be a Community Resource Fair, a place to learn what information, or programs are available locally. She said at the first Community Resource Fair, there was strong participation from professionals and it provided good networking opportunities.
“This time we have 18 different booths talking about anything from foot care to nutrition to family violence,” said Laycock.
The Healthy Lifestyle Fairs are not a Drumheller exclusive event. Laycock said not only will they be held semi-annually, but also in many of the areas, the Big Country Primary Care Network cover.
“The Big Country Primary Network covers Hanna, Three Hills, Trochu, Stettler, Coronation, Consort, and each of these areas will be offering the same format,” she said.
Registration forms can be picked up at Drumheller Associated Physicians Clinic. For more information contact Laycock at 403-823-3345 or e-mail Erica@bigcountrypcn.com.
