Teen dies in rollover on Highway 9

The RCMP Drumheller detachment and the Calgary Medical Examiner’s office are investigating a single vehicle fatal motor vehicle accident occurring the afternoon of October 23 2010 approximately 35 kms west of Drumheller in the construction zone on highway 9.

A westbound pickup truck went off the road into the southside ditch flipping and rolling several times before coming to rest on its roof.

Witnesses report observing a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed in the construction zone just prior to this incident.

The 19-year-old male driver was ejected from the truck.  He was transported from the scene by STARS air ambulance with severe injuries to Foothills hospital Calgary but was pronounced dead on arrival.
It is not believed the driver was wearing his seatbelt.
The investigation is continuing. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
