Never underestimate the determination of a teacher celebrating the end of a school year

Laura Hegberg, teacher at DCHS, was at a year end gathering with fellow faculty members at the Last Chance Saloon in Wayne on June 30.

Ms. Hegberg had it in the back of her mind to try the famed hill climb (background) that has called so many, but few succeed. She did it, bottom to top and back in 9 minutes and 38 seconds, according to pub owner Fred Dayman. “Now we have an official women’s record,” he told The Mail. “A few have tried in the past, but none came close to Laura’s time.” The record for the men is still at seven minutes flat and has stood for two years.
