Drumheller students give back to community with fundraisers

Greentree Kilo 2022

Students from the valley’s three schools recently participated in fundraising activities to help support the Drumheller Salvation Army food bank, and the Drumheller Valley Secondary School (DVSS) 2022 grad class was also able to hold its first cake auction fundraiser in two years.
The Kilo of Kindness food drive ran between March 1 and April 5, with students collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations alike for the Salvation Army food bank. A total of 806.25 pounds of food was collected between the three schools. DVSS students collected 349.35 pounds, St. Anthony’s students collected 249 pounds, and Greentree School students collected a total of 207.90 pounds. Grade 6 Greentree Elementary students were on hand to help with handing over the donated food to the Salvation Army. At the hand-off were (l-r) Raelynn, Salvation ArmyMajor Laura Burrell, Aydyn, Kevin, Skyler, and Salvation Army Family Services coordinator Amanda Courtenay.

CakeFundraiser

Raising money for the DVSS 2022 grad class was a “piece of cake” at the annual cake auction fundraiser. A total of 50 confectionary treats were up for auction, and bidding was fast paced and competitive. One cake saw the most competition, with staff and students running bids from one side to the other, and was auctioned off for $545. This is the first cake auction the school has been able to hold in two years, and it has been their highest cake fundraiser ever, raising a total of $3,471 for the 2022 grad class. DVSS grad committee members (l-r) Tori James, Megan Smith, Rhylan Castonguay, Alana Mackey, Jesse Paarup, and Nathan Dobell pose with one of the 50 confectionary items that were up for auction.
