The 2021 Operating and Capital budget for the Village of Hussar was brought back for final approval during the Thursday, May 13 regular council meeting.
Despite financial pressures from the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing RCMP requisition, and advertising and supplies for the 2021 municipal election and Census, the Operating Budget saw a marginal increase over 2020.
RCMP requisition has increased for rural municipalities across the province. In 2020 the Village of Hussar paid $3,380 for police services to the rural area, while in 2021 the price has increased to $5,341; this cost is expected to increase to more than $10,000 in 2022 and 2023 for the village.
Village of Hussar Chief Administrative Officer Kate Brandt noted the village has already committed $48,234 to complete paving at the intersection of Centre Street and 2nd Avenue, which will be funded by the Municipal Stimulus Program (MSP) which provides additional capital infrastructure funding to municipalities.
Council unanimously approved the 2021 Operating Budget of $174,286.59 and the 2021 Capital Budget of $607,152.61.
