Weight restrictions placed on Wayne bridge

Weight restriction have been imposed on a bridge leading to Wayne as the condition of the bridge has “deteriorated substantially over the last two years.”

Bridge 11 will have weight limits of three tonnes, a significant downgrade from the 16 to 24 tonnes the other bridges can handle.

Signage will be placed on the bridge and the school bus operator who uses that route will be informed to change their route, town CAO Darryl Drohomerski said in a press release.

““Bridges 9, 10 and 11 have been inspected this week as part of regular maintenance and specifically, after the Wayne flood earlier this year,” said Julia Fielding, communications officer of the Town of Drumheller. “The inspection indicated that the bridge has deteriorated substantially over the last two years.”

Bridge 11 is on the capital budget list for replacement, pending grant funding. The town has applied for a STIP (Strategic Transportation Infrastructure

Program) grant to repair the bridge the last two years and will do so again this year. The town will also be applying for Disaster Recovery Program funding for this project.
