Bantam Titans advance to playoffs

Last minute heroics, hard work and strategic coaching saw the Bantam Titans win their final league game of the season and on their last drive.
The Titans were at home on Saturday afternoon to take on Innisfail. Coach Ron Thornborough said it was a back and fourth game with the Titans taking a lead for a spell and Innisfail catching up. As the clock ticked down, the two teams were tied 30-30. The Titans set up for a field goal, but they had different plans.
“We faked the field goal and ran it in,’ said Thornborough.
Quarterback T.J. Smith scored the winner.
“It was a good day. The boys played hard and everyone was proud, and it was exciting for the fans,” said Thornborough.
The win gives the Bantam Titans a 3-3 record and propelled them to the tier 2 semifinals. Last season they played at the tier 4 level.  He is proud of the progress the team has made this season.
This coming Saturday the Bantam Titans are Lacombe bound to play the first place team out of the north. The Titans haven’t seen them play but believe they will be strong.
“We will go in and do our best. Hopefully the boys won’t get any injuries. Win or lose you move on,” said Thornborough.
If the Titans are unsuccessful, they will be moved down to tier 3.
