Drumheller Fire Department marks Fire Prevention Week

This week fire department in the area and across Canada are stressing the importance of safety in the kitchen
October 6 to October 12 is Fire Prevention Week.  This year’s theme is Prevent Kitchen Fires. Kitchens are one of the most important rooms in the house, however they are also one of the most dangerous. Two of every home fires start in the kitchen.
Local departments have been working spreading awareness. This week the Drumheller Fire Department will be hosting students to have a look at the Drumheller Fire Hall.
On October 10, the department will be hosting kindergarten students from St. Anthony’s School in the morning. In the afternoon, the department will have visitors from Bedrock Playschool come.
During these visits, the children will receive a short fire prevention talk and then tour the hall. They will also be distributing a fire safety booklet to all the children.
“Our goal is to help kids live safely,” said Luigi Vescarelli, fire prevention officer in a press release. “The booklet aims to teach that, by understanding and observing a simple collection of rules young people can stay healthy and happy, and safe.”
While the department is spreading awareness, during Fire Prevention Week, it works all year long to educate young and old about fire safety. On October 23, the Drumheller Boy Scouts will also get a chance to check out the hall.
