Rumsey STARS fundraiser rides in to 23rd year

Going into its 23rd year the Rumsey Ride for STARS continues to capture the imagination of supporters who head out on the trail for a good cause.
The Rumsey Ride is the longest running fundraising project for STARS. Last year it passed an impressive milestone raising more than a half million dollars for the air ambulance service. Jacqui Goddard one of the organizers, says that STARS is often well supported by rural residents lifesaving stories are not uncommon. The service also supports the oil and gas industry.
“Say a rig moves on to your land, they are required to register with STARS and receive an identifying number,” said Goddard. “If they have an accident you can phone in and say what number, and they can look it up and see where it is and who it is and it makes them that much faster.”

This year’s Rumsey Ride goes on Sunday, August 12 at the Bar TL Ranch. In the ride’s 23 year history, it has raised more than a half million dollars. (filephoto)

This year’s ride goes on Sunday, August 12 at the TL Bar Ranch. Riders can camp over on Saturday night to get an early start.  The day starts with breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for only $5. Riders then have two rides to choose from, both commencing at 10:30 a.m.
The first is about 2-3 hours in duration and is designed for any rider of any skill level. Terrain includes dirt roads, grassy flats and some small inclines. Jaime Anderson will be the guide and the trail will treat riders to beautiful views of the valley.
The second ride, led by Ernie Goddard is about three to four hours in length and is for the more seasoned horse and more confident riders. The terrain includes loose shale, creek crossings, steps and narrow passages.
There are prizes for the junior and senior riders who raise the most pledges.
The Poker Rally is just $5 per hand.
You don’ t have to ride to be a part of the Annual Ride for STARS. Throughout the day there is a silent auction as well as a quilt raffle. You can also come out for the beef supper from 4-6 p.m., following the ride Sunday evening.
To date the Rumsey ride has raised  $504,923. The next goal for the event is set at $550,000.
