Mountain View Credit Union elects new board

The Mountain View Credit Union has undergone a change at the top several weeks ago. A  recent election has resulted in three new candidates being elected to the board of directors.

Five candidates tossed their names into the hat, but only three were needed. After the election, Wendy Metzger, Charlie Van Arnam, and Glenn Sawyer  were elected. The new board will help continue the success that Mountain View Credit Union has had.

Metzger has extensive knowledge of the board, having just completed a three year term with the Mountain View Credit Union board and serving on several committees.

She has also completed personal and professional development courses offered by the Credit Union Director Achievement program.

Metzger has also served as a Provincial School Board Trustee for 12 years in Rocky View School Division as both Chair and Vice Chair, presently serves on the Agricultural Service Board on behalf of Rocky View County, and is a volunteer member of the Beiseker and District Recreation Board.

Van Arnam has board experience at the local, municipal, and provincial levels. Van Arnam also has 12 years of board service for Mountain View Credit Union during the 1990’s and early 2000’s and for the past three years, served on several committees.

Van Arnam has previously served as a councillor for Mountain View County from  October 2001 to August 2004 and on the Board of Egg Producers, both at a provincial and national level.

This is the first term for newcomer Sawyer. However, he brings experience from a number of boards, including past director and of the Alberta Canola Producers Commission, chair of marketing development for the A.C.P.C., Western Canadian Wheat Growers, Alberta Cattle Commission, and chair of the Professional Development Committee of Spirit River School Division.

The election is also significant in that this is the first to be online.

In past years, only members who attended the annual general meeting could vote.

Members of the Credit Union could vote from anywhere, rather than making the trek to a meeting. While online, members can view profiles of the candidates.

Participation this year was similar to that in previous elections. Mountain View Credit Union will continue to use online elections in the years to come. The goal of the Credit Union will be to increase participation in the coming elections.
