Lockdown and search at Drumheller Institution

DRUMHELLER, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 13, 2011) - At approximately 6:45 p.m. on October 12, 2011, Drumheller Institution was placed on lockdown in order to facilitate an exceptional search of the institution.

The search is a result of the discovery of unauthorized items in the institution.

The search is being conducted to ensure the ongoing safety and security of the institution, its staff and the inmates. The institution will return to normal routine when institutional management determines it is safe to do so.

Visits will be suspended until the search has been completed.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is committed to preventing contraband from entering institutions. Our efforts help to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
