Assault prompts Institution lockdown

The Drumheller Institution was placed on lockdown on Sunday afternoon following three separate inmate assaults over the weekend.     The lockdown was instigated at about 6 p.m., and as of Monday, it continued. Inmates are confined to their units and visits to the Medium Security inmates have been cancelled until further notice states a press release.
Stemming from these incidents, two victims were assessed and treated at an outside hospital and later returned to the Drumheller Institution.
The general population is locked down to facilitate the investigation by corrections staff and the RCMP into the incidents and for public safety. The institution will reopen once the warden is satisfied it is safe to do so.
