Run to be held late August in memory of teen

A run will be held in late August in the memory of a Drumheller teen who passed away last year after suffering a severe asthma attack.

Drumheller Valley Secondary School student and lifelong sufferer Mitchell Dawson, 15, passed away on August 27, 2010 from an asthma attack.
“He was probably the funniest kid I’ve ever met in my life,” says lifelong friend Cody Bryant who’s organizing the event on August 28 at the DVSS track, a day later than the first year anniversary of his friend’s passing.
“He meant something to everyone, and I want to keep his memory alive,” says Bryant of his reasons for hosting the run/walk fundraiser for the Asthma Society of Canada in memory of his friend.
“He should never be forgotten. It’s been particularly hard on quite a few people. He was very much well liked.”
As of Thursday, there are currently 25 people attending the run with another 23 still on the fence. Bryant hopes more will turn out for the event.
Pledges can be made beforehand or at the walk, in support of further asthma research.
“The family says there is no words to describe how great it is to do this. Mitchell was a single child of a single mom, it’s been pretty tough,” says Bryant.
Register for the walk by calling Cody Bryant at 823-5616 or by texting his cell phone at 821-0326. Registering is preferred, but drop ins are welcome.
