matt-schulz-june-2014

Age: 27
Occupation:
Emergency Medical Technician.
How did you become interested in that career?
I was in Athletic Therapy and took EMT as a pre-requisite course, went on some ride-alongs in Drumheller and decided.
Describe a typical shift.
It’s so random, there isn’t one. It can be  pretty quiet for 24 hours or you can get a number of calls.
How long have you lived here?
We moved here when I was 17.
Do you drive the ambulance?
I usually alternate driving to calls with my partner on-shift. But I prefer being in the back administering patient care - it’s the less stressful of the two.
What do you do to de-stress from work?
I enjoy hunting, fishing and sports. And I’m restoring a car.
What kind of car are you restoring?
1959 Chevrolet Biscayne. in ‘59 they went a little wild with the design - it has big fins on the back.
If you could drive the car anywhere, where would it be?
Probably down to Vegas. There’s a lot of cool cars down there. Cursing the strip with it would be pretty cool.
What is your favourite part of Christmas?
Spending time with family and friends.
What’s your favourite Christmas treat?
My Mom makes these soft cookies with coconut on top - I definitely take some home with me.
What’s your most watched Christmas show?
Clark Griswold (actor Chevy Chase) in Christmas Vacation.
What’s your suggestion for having a happy and healthy holiday season?
Be safe. Enjoy everything in moderation.

How did you get interested in that career?
I actually was interested in it when I was in high school but took the round-about route to get there.
Do you like medical T.V. shows?
Oh yeah. I love “House”. I watched the shows of doctors performing operations when I was growing up.
How long have you lived here?
Born and raised.
What are your favourite things about living here?
The landscape, and the fact it’s not the city. You can actually see the stars. The sense of community here, too.
What is something you would like to see for Drumheller?
I’d like to see more of the young people being ambitious and taking the initiative to make this town more vibrant.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Sports - volleyball, softball, hiking, camping - and guitar.
When did you start playing guitar?
I started when I was 16 and taught myself. I printed guitar tabs from the internet and played them.
Do you enjoy playing the guitar or singing more?
Guitar. I started singing with the band “Dooley Noted”.
What style of music does the band play?
Folk and alternative. We can take any song and folk it up.
What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?
Dusti is my middle name.
What’s your favourite thing about winter?
That’s a tough one-not a big fan of winter.
