Who are you? Layne Syvertsen

who-are-you--layne.jpg

Name: Layne Syvertsen
Employer: Royal Tyrrell Museum
Job Title: G.E.O. (Gallery Experience Officer)
What do you like most about your job? Getting to spend so much time in the museum galleries, and meeting so many interesting people.
How long have you lived in Drumheller?  Since last June, but I lived in Carbon for 2 years before that.
Where are you from? Born in Medicine Hat, grew up in Calgary.
What do you do in your spare time? Play music, write songs, go hiking or mountain biking.
Who or what inspires you (and how)? When I was just starting out on guitar, I had a dream where I got to visit heaven and see this awesome band of all the great musicians that have died. After the show, Jimi Hendrix came over and sat down with me. He told me “never give up on your dreams.” That has been a big inspiration for me ever since.
Who would you like most to meet? I think it would be The Edge from U2. He was one of my very first inspirations to get into music.
What would you like to achieve this year?  The completion of my album Road to Maya.
Any New Year’s resolution? Not this time around.
What was your best Christmas present of all time? My first album, Let it Be by The Beatles. That was a huge inspiration for me to further my music.
Favourite book/film/song?Book: The Alchemist, Film: Gladiator, Song: Stairway to Heaven
If money was no option, what would you be doing? Recording and promoting my music.
What’s on your playlist? What’s a playlist? I listen to CD’s, you lose something when you just listen to bits and pieces instead of the album as a whole. Right now it’s lots of Beatles, Zeppelin, and Neil Young.
What legacy would you like to leave Drumheller? Again I would have to say my music, and the bands I’ve played in.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? Right here in Drumheller, this is where I’ve wanted to live all my life.
Black or white? White, it’s actually all of the colours in one. With black you just get a lack of any colour at all.
Words to live by? Don’t be afraid to take chances in life, the only pain is to feel nothing at all.
