The Atom Terrapins played their first game ever and walked off the field as the winner.
This season Drumheller Community Football introduced the Atom level of football. This is to introduce the game to the upcoming players and skill development.
On Friday, September 29 they invited Stettler for a game, and played well, winning 48-24.
“It came together really well. They did really good, I am really happy for them,” said Coach Brad Iverson. “It was the first year and the first game, and they came out and scored lots, and shut them down quite a bit.”
Iverson says there is no league at the Atom level, so they have arranged games with other schools with similar programs.
He explains they play a development style.
“You run six plays on offence and you run six plays on defense, and go back and forth. Coaches are on the field, so there is lots of instruction to make sure everybody is doing things correctly and safely,” he said.
This Friday the team is returning the favour and heading up to Stettler to complete the home and home series.

The Dragons are proud to announce that fourth year defenceman and newly minted assistant captain, Cyle Clayton, has announced his commitment to play division one hockey at the University of Alaska Fairbanks!
Clayton, who hails from Strathmore, Alberta, has played 51 games with the Dragons and has recorded 22 points over his four seasons with the organization. He was recently named the assistant captain for this upcoming season, speaking to his tremendous leadership skills both on and off the ice.

Cyle plays an important two-way role for the Dragons defensive core, often seeing minutes both on the powerplay and penalty kill. After injury filled seasons the past few years, Clayton came into the 2023-2024 season healthy and was one of the Dragons top players during the exhibition season.
We would like to congratulate the Clayton family and Cyle on his commitment!

Senior Titans defeat Olds

The Senior Titans have maintained their perfect record this season, going toe to toe with Olds, and coming up with a 35-10 win.
The Senior Titans were in Olds on Saturday, September 23. They were coming off a big win over Catholic Central of Lethbridge. The Titans started off slowly, and one of the conditions that affected the team was the wind.
“When we started out, it was pretty windy, so they actually scored three singles just by kicking it,” explained head coach Ken Fournier. “We started off a bit shaky, but the guys battled through the wind and took it back and controlled the ball in the second half.”
The Titans and Olds have faced each other many times over the years in league play and didn’t bring any surprises for the Titans.
Coach Fournier was pretty happy with the outcome.
“The defense was pretty good in the second half,” said Fourneir adding he is seeing progress in all aspects of the game.
“These guys can run a lot of variations of offensive plays and formations. As far as the young guys go, there has been good progress.”
The focus for the team as it continues through the season is to clean up mental errors.
“They had a rough first quarter, just because of mental errors. We have to come mentally prepared for games,” he said. “It has been two weeks now and we have been starting with too many mental errors. There are a lot of things we can do to prevent that stuff, so we are going to have to dig down over the next couple of weeks in practice and make sure we take care of that stuff.”
Their next game is against Carstairs, in Didsbury on Wednesday, September 27.
“They are young and are still an evolving program so we we expect they will be a little bit farther along than they were last year with a few games under their belt,” said Fournier.
