Born in Colchester, England on April 1st, 1946 as Clare Leanora Fahie, Clare was the oldest of four girls. Clare began training as a nurse in England in 1966, meeting two Canadian exchange students during her training, Diane and Pat, who became her lifelong friends. Clare married Doug Carson on May 8th,1971, with the service held in Fort St John, where Clare was working at the time. In future years, Clare and Doug would become honorary grandparents to Dean’s (Cheryl’s) children, Brett and Austin. Clare and Doug have three children of their own and remained on the family farm to raise their children into adults. Clare retired from nursing when her children were born and remained in the home until 1988. At that time, she took a position as a teacher’s aide at the Delia School Kindergarten, working there for almost 20 years, making many wonderful friends, and helping many children. Clare and Doug resettled in the Handhills as their last child was finishing high school and remained there until retiring from ranching in 2012. Clare’s grandchildren loved visiting them on their ranch, exploring and bale jumping every holiday. Clare’s love of the land was a driving force in her life, and she wrote many poems on it, as well as poems about other topics dear to her life in the Delia community. Clare was an active volunteer with Communities in Bloom, Delia Economic Development Committee, Delia Centennial Committee and Delia Kids Sport and will be sadly missed by her family and those close to her.
