AlfredFlater

March 14, 1941- November 8, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father and grandfather, Alfred Flater on November 8th, 2024, at the age of 83 years old. Alfred was born in Brooks, AB on March 14th, 1941, to Clifford and Ida Flater. The Flater family lived in Midland where his father worked in the mines, and Alfred attended Midland School. As a youth, he excelled in sports. He was a skilled baseball and hockey player. When he was 16 years old, he played with his brother, Ken, in the Drumheller and District Hockey League for the Handhills Bronks. Both Alfred and Ken were regularly on the score sheet! In May 1967, Donalda Molyneaux caught the eye of Alfred, and by September of that year they were married. Alfred and Donalda celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary prior to her passing in October of 2023. Alfred was a hard worker, held various occupations and was an experienced carpenter. His love will continue to be felt by his sons Brian (Marina), Glen (Rachel); grandchildren, Ash (Rebecca), Alyssa (Tyler), Zach (Maggie), Evan (Myah); and his brother Ken. Alfred’s family would like to thank the amazing caregivers at the Drumheller Continuing Care and Drumheller Hospital. A private family service will be held in the future.

Lorna Anne Amendt passed away suddenly at her home in Red Deer on October 29, 2024, at the age of 55 years.
Lorna was born on September 11, 1969, in Hanna, Alberta, the youngest child and only daughter of Frank and Ann Amendt. When she was very young her family moved to Grande Prairie, where she received most of her schooling. She spent her last two years of high school in Delia following her parents’ move to a farm in the Handhills. Lorna spent time at the University of Alberta and Olds College, before moving to Red Deer to study nursing. She proudly served the people of Drumheller as a Registered Nurse for many years.
Lorna enjoyed traveling, flowers, crafting, cooking, dogs, decorating for Christmas, and spending time with her extended family. She especially enjoyed being an aunt. She fought a brave battle with ovarian cancer thirteen years ago, a battle that she won, but which took a lasting toll on her health. She later provided support and comfort to numerous others who were battling cancer.
In 2023, Lorna sold the farm in the Handhills and moved with her faithful canine companion Sophie to Red Deer. She enjoyed a year there settling into her new home and enjoying the companionship of her longtime friend Jennifer Morris.
Lorna is survived by her father Frank (Lorraine) Amendt; her brothers Don (Rena), Glenn (Gail), and Darcy (Susan); nieces Sarah (Kim), Phoebe (Aaron) and Amy (Kayle); nephews Steve (Sarah), Matt (Emma), Adam (Kaitlyn), Gavin, Jackson and Samuel; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
